Donna Kuper of Everett, Wash., keeps her soap-filled steel wool pads from rusting by freezing them between uses. “It only takes a few seconds for the pad to thaw, or it can be used immediately when submerged in warm water. Freezing the moisture in the pad keeps the pad from rusting,” she wrote.
Another way to keep soap filled steel wool from rusting is never put them in soapy water. Always dip them in clear water. Thay will last forever if you do this.

I have been keeping my soap-filled steel wool pads rust free for over 40 years by just rinsing them and squeezing out the excess water after each use and being sure there is no food residue on them. Then I place them back into the box with the ones that have not been used yet. They stay rust free right until all the soap in them is used up. I have passed this on to many friends and family members and it has never failed me yet. Try it, it really works!

Save more by cutting pads either in halves or fourths using a smaller portion will save. The remainder of the pad will not get wet.
