I do the same thing w/ my clippings but you have to be careful not to let them “ferment” in a container or even in a big wet pile. I did just that and used them anyway; they reeked like vinegar and they burned whatever lower leaves were in contact w/ the clippings. Everything is OK now a week later. The odor is gone and there is no further damage. But it wasn’t pretty for a few days…

The first year of gardening without mulch resulted in the small garden area (about 50 square feet) having about 25 thirty gallon bags of weeds during the summer. The next year with mulch there were 2 bags and now there is rarely a bag out of 1000+ square feet of garden.
