Need to get rid of those pesky “fruit flies” in your kitchen? Beverly Byer of Centennial, Colo., feels our pain. She offers this tip which should keep those annoying little insects under wraps, for good.
“Place a few slices of overripe banana in the bottom of a jar,” she writes. “Cover the top of the jar with plastic wrap. Poke several holes through the plastic wrap with a toothpick. The fruit flies can find their way into the jar but cannot find their way out.”

This web site certainly has all the info I wanted about this subject and didn’t know who to ask.
Fortaleza CEMotumbe1! Mukuio! Ase9!
I also have another remedy for fruit flies:::
small juice glass, half full w/cider vinegar and a couple drops of Dawn liquid dish detergent.
Works wonders!!!
For about three years we have not seen even one “fruit fly” and we each eat one banana a day. Three years ago we bought a Simplehuman 1.5 liter Countertop Trash Can (CW1637) and a box of Hefty Trash Bags (50 per box; $4.29 at Weis Markets; only store in Frederick, MD that sells them). We emply the trash can about every four days, put a secure twist tie (from product department) on and put in garbage. There is no smell on the countertop, or garbage can and no “fruit flies”.
Quite by accident, I found a remedy for those pesky fruit flies.
While drinking a margarita flavored wine cooler, one flew in the bottle and died on the spot. I wasn’t going to finish the rest of it and left it on the counter. When I returned, there were four more in there.
That aroused curiosity, so I poured an inch of it into a small pimento jar and left it close to a bad banana.
In two days, the jar was black with the little monsters!
Makes me wonder what that stuff does to my insides!
Another approach to catching fruit flies is to construct a trap by placing a paper funnel (rolled from a sheet of notebook paper) into a jar which is then baited with a few ounces of cider vinegar. Place the jar trap(s) wherever fruit flies are seen. This simple but effective trap will soon catch any remaining adult flies which can then be killed or released outdoors. See:
